Jessica's Story
Jessica grew up in a predominantly African-
American neighborhood where she encountered
the Baha'i Faith, and the music, teachings, and
community life around her left a lasting mark —
a thread that would later draw her to singing as
medicine and years spent immersed in cultures
beyond her own. Raised by non-religious parents, yet surrounded by a deeply devotional Bahá'í community, she was encouraged from an early age to share her voice in service to others.
Even so, Jessica's early life was marked by emotional upheaval — a volatile household, a highly sensitive nature, and constant bullying at school. By 18, that early adversity had taken a physical toll: Jessica was 300 pounds, living with severe sleep apnea and hypoglycemia, anxiety, clinical depression and OCD. Owing to her highly sensitive nature, she knew the conventional medical path wasn't going to work for her, and so she began an intense holistic healing journey — one that would ultimately lead her to lose 140 pounds and reverse all her chronic health conditions.
Her healing journey took her far beyond convention. She has lived in China and studied in Ghana. She spent years visiting and at times living on the Lac du Flambeau reservation, immersed in Ojibwe culture, and attended Sitting Bull Tribal College on the Standing Rock reservation, participating in Lakota ceremonies. Alongside decades of sacred singing — in Bahá'í devotional gatherings, Kirtan, gospel traditions, and Indigenous sweat lodges — this path deepened her devotional life and opened her to different ways of connecting to the unseen. Still, of everything that has shaped her, none has transformed her more than following the Bahá'í Teachings.
Through all of it, singing with people — and helping them find connection, joy, and freedom through it — has never been a technique for her. It's simply what she does, whether or not anyone is paying her to. Over more than 30 years, she has led thousands of people in singing together, across the country — long before any of it was her profession.
Her holistic healing path eventually became her vocation: she is a certified holistic health counselor and coach, certified sound healing practitioner, and professional singer, with a daily meditation and prayer practice she has kept for over 30 years, enhanced by participating in Vipassana retreats. In 2022, Long Covid dismantled her nervous system and put her out of commission for two years — she healed once more, this time by going deeper into the science of nervous system regulation, which led her to formal sound healing training.
Today, as a professional practice, Jessica has guided more than 250 people locally through sacred singing and sound healing. Through grace, the woman she's become is the one who now holds space for others to transcend as well.
